Advanced Diagnostic Testing for Ocular Diseases

If your Boise optometrists has determined that further testing with advanced diagnostic modalities is indicated, we are able to provide complete continuity of care. Many advanced imaging modalities are done right in our Boise eye care center, and if additional testing is deemed necessary that can't be done directly in our office, we can refer you to our sister clinic, Eyecare Associates of Nampa, to complete the testing. This enables you to get all the necessary testing completed, while still allowing you to be followed by your regular family optometrist in Boise.

Corneal Topography in Boise

The Topographer is a non-invasive medical imaging technique offered at Eyecare Associates of Boise that maps the surface curvature of the cornea. The 3-D map produced by the Topographer aids our optometrists in diagnosing, monitoring, and treating of various visual conditions. It is used to help diagnose & treat certain ocular conditions, such as keratoconus (progressive steepening of the cornea), corneal deformities, corneal scars or opacities & most importantly – the fitting of contacts. Another important use of the Topographer is for pre-op measurements for Lasik & PRK surgeries as well as post-op measurements from cataract removal.

Visual Field Testing

A visual field test is a method of measuring an individual’s central and peripheral (side) vision. Visual field testing is most frequently used to detect any signs of glaucoma damage to the optic nerve. In addition, visual field tests are useful for detection of central or peripheral retinal disease, eyelid conditions such as ptosis or drooping of the eyelid, optic nerve disease, and diseases affecting the Perimeter.

AdaptDx Pro

The AdaptDx Pro is a simple, fully automated arm adaptometer that measures dark adaptation speed. This can be used to detect and monitor the progression of age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Impaired dark adaptation is 90% sensitive and specific to the presence of AMD. Testing a patients' dark adaptation speed may help your doctor detect the earliest signs of AMD in addition to monitoring subtle disease progression that can be missed with subjective imaging technology.

Electroretinography (ERG)

The electroretinography test measures the electrical response of the retina to light. This test may also help your eye doctor assess your need for retinal surgery or other types of eye surgery, such as the removal of cataracts.
